Igbo Union Stoke-on-Trent Summer Picnic 2025: A Feast of Fun, Unity, and Culture
On Saturday, 21st June 2025, the Igbo Union Stoke-on-Trent gathered at Fenton Park for our much-anticipated Summer Picnic — and what a day it was! From the very first moment families arrived, the atmosphere was electric, filled with joy, laughter, and the unmistakable spirit of Ndi Igbo living and thriving in unity.
A Day of Abundance and Excitement
The turnout was massive, with members coming in large numbers alongside their families and friends. Every family brought something special to share, and the result was nothing short of a feast — tables overflowed with food and drinks, from home-cooked delicacies to roasted treats, creating a true communal banquet.
Children filled the park with laughter as they played in the open fields, ran through the playground, and enjoyed themselves freely. Their joy was contagious, reminding us all of the importance of creating spaces where the younger generation can bond, celebrate, and feel proud of their heritage.
Games, Dancing, and Togetherness
It wasn’t just about eating — the picnic was packed with fun activities. Adults and children alike participated in exciting games. The highlight was the “Chicken Game,” where anyone who successfully threw a ball into a cup won a tasty piece of roasted chicken — a challenge that brought cheers and friendly competition!
We also had lively dancing sessions, jogging exercises, and group games such as “How Long Can You Tap the Ball?” and spoon-balancing races. Every activity was filled with laughter and lighthearted rivalry, strengthening the bonds of friendship and togetherness.
For those who preferred a slower pace, board games like Ludo, Nchorokoto, Whot, Scrabble, Chess, and Drafts were on hand, keeping both young and old engaged. It was truly a day where everyone found something to enjoy.
Unity in Diversity
One of the most striking aspects of the picnic was the group identity spirit. Our family clusters — Enyimba, Nwannedinamba, and Echidime — proudly wore their uniforms and colors, adding vibrancy and a sense of belonging to the gathering. It was a celebration of unity in diversity, each group contributing to the larger picture of harmony.
Respect, Responsibility, and Community Pride
Beyond the fun, the day reflected our values. Families managed their waste responsibly, ensuring that the grounds remained clean. Bin bags were provided, and everyone played a part in keeping the park tidy. This spirit of shared responsibility demonstrated the discipline and respect we hold as a community.
Our President and executives also reminded members that such gatherings go beyond leisure — they are about building a legacy of togetherness, teaching our children responsibility, and showing the wider community the strength and pride of Ndi Igbo in the diaspora.
A Picnic to Remember
As the sun set and families packed their mats and games, one thing was certain: this was not just another picnic — it was a day of unity, culture, and unforgettable joy. Every child went home smiling, every adult left fulfilled, and every family carried with them memories to cherish.
The 2025 Summer Picnic at Fenton Park was indeed a beautiful reminder of who we are — a people of culture, unity, resilience, and love. Together, we feasted, played, danced, and most importantly, grew closer as one family.
Here’s to many more celebrations of love, laughter, and Igbo heritage in the years to come.
Daalu nu, Ndi Igbo!
